Lack of respect for your Window’s machine’s feelings. That’s where this all really started from. It has a superiority complex which needs constant attention and throwing it in with the open source crowd makes it fell itchy all over like it’s got lice. Hen, never pollute your windows computers with Linux dual boot arrangements again. If not that, burn the drive and use this as your opportunity to move up to ssd. Finally, go to the BOOT tab and turn off secure boot and push the Kali Grub up ahead the Windows Boot manager in the boot order. Enter into the folder and select the grub efi file. Go into the BOOT directory and find the Kali folder.

I’m assuming you’ve moved on to better things by now but if you’re still trying, maybe use the latest win 10 install media and run the command from the partition you intend to boot too. Scroll down to 'Select an UEFI file as trusted for executing' and click on it. I rebooted, saw windows take over and soiled myself. I ran it against an ancient original install and it warned about the same access problem my previous attempts encountered but then just did the job anyway.

I ran the command provided at the top from the E: prompt (where C ends up after booting from a Windows 10 install thumb drive). It actually provides another layer of recovery possibilities. I didn’t read all the comments above so I apologize if I’m rehashing or missing the point but I left Grub on computers long after Grub had any use. GRUB should be gone from MBR, restart and confirm. If your drive is C:\ this command will be C:\> bootsect /nt60 C: /mbr In Command Prompt (Administrator) C:\> bootsect /nt60 : /mbr Simply type in the following command to remove GRUB bootloader from bootsector on MBR and revert back to Windows bootloader. I wish I still had time to work with Linux, at one time I had 5 distro's installed on one machine to see what I preferred, I don't think I ever decided they are all so good. I know the Linux community, and I know they are light years better than the Windows community when it comes to knowledge, and actually being willing to help, so I came here instead of going there. and I am unable to remember how to either go back to the Windows boot loader, or even change the time limit of GRUB to either 0 or 1 seconds.Īgain, since Linux is no longer installed how do I manage to change things so that she doesn't have to wait or choose Windows which is the only existing OS on the machine? I don't care if I use Windows or Grub, I just need to make it match what is actually happening on the machine.

Since my wife is using it, and can barely work Windows which she uses at work, I only reinstall windows which uses the existing Windows key to validate.īut now, the BIOS is still using the GRUB, which does the job fine except you either have to wait 30 seconds for it to auto choose Windows, or choose manually. Then I have to replace the hard drive because of a failure. So anyway I get a new laptop passing this one down to my wife who rarely uses a computer, and I set the GRUB to automatically boot Windows. Many years ago I was actually triple booting this machine between W10, Ubuntu ? and another Linux distro that escapes my memory at the moment.
